Region 1 Spring Business Meeting
The Regional Spring Business Meeting is a dynamic gathering of NSBE leaders, members and, and affiliates within the region, aimed at fostering collaboration , setting organizational goals, and preparing for Nationals. This is a crucial event for discussing the region’s strategy, upcoming initiatives, and networking opportunities to engage and prepare members for the NSBE National Convention. NSBE NYC participates in this event by offering networking opportunities, and volunteering.
NSBE National Convention –
A premier event that brings together engineers from across the country, offering networking, career advancement, and professional development opportunities. The NSBE National Convention is a flagship event that brings together nearly 10,000 African-American engineers, students, and professionals from across the nation. The convention offers a wide range of professional development workshops, technical sessions, and personal development workshops, allowing members to enhance their skills and expand their knowledge in various aspects of their careers. The National Convention also features a large career fair, where NSBE NYC members join their respective companies and connect with potential recruits . In addition to the career fair, NSBE NYC members volunteer in resume bootcamps , and host the annual STEM Reunion.
NSBE Professional Development Conference / Fall Regional Conference
These conferences focus on equipping members with the necessary tools for career success, including workshops, panels, and keynote speakers from industry leaders.
Professional Development Seminars / General Body Meetings
Monthly seminars and meetings that focus on career development topics, such as navigating hybrid work environments, along with updates on chapter business and networking opportunities . For example, NSBE NYC has partnered with Cisco Black Professionals (CBP) to host a General Body Meeting, focusing on the topic “Navigating Your Career in a Hybrid Environment.” where we addressed key challenges such as managing a job search without the need for a daily commute and navigating the potential downsides of remote work. In addition to discussing these important issues, the meeting covered relevant chapter business and provided updates.
Collegiate Initiatives – Programs aimed at supporting and engaging collegiate members, helping them transition smoothly into professional roles through mentorship and networking. NSBE NYC’s initiatives involve collaborating with local chapters in the Metro NYC area to host events and workshops.
Social Activities & Networking Events – A variety of social mixers and networking events, including the Black STEM Professionals Mixer Series and others where members can connect, socialize, and collaborate. Events like “New Year, New Connections” offer opportunities for young professionals to engage in fun settings such as mini-golf, craft cocktails, and upscale dining. Our annual Fall Technical Professionals Mixer allows old and new members to reconnect and prep for the fiscal year of activity.
UPMIXER & Summer Sizzler – Annual events where NSBE NYC collaborates with other professional organizations (NBMBAA, NAMIC, BDPA, NYABJ, NYULYP, One Hundred Black Men, etc) where we collaborate, empower and celebrate. These sold out events allow old & new members to reconnect and network in an informal, enjoyable environment with food, drinks, and music.
Engineering The World (ETW) – ETW was founded in an effort to build the foundation to impact, revitalize and empower our youth and future leaders. It was developed to introduce minority youths to the technical and nontechnical aspect of the broadcast industry and its many other supporting fields. This event is a one day program that offers lecture workshops, technical presentations, tours and a mock TV production shoot. Throughout the day we also provide a light continental breakfast and a full lunch to the students and guests. Some of the benefits of this program has offered over the years is the impact it leaves upon the many attendees, internship opportunities as well as potential full time employment. Since our inception in 2005 we have provided over 30 internships and 3 full time employment positions.
Chapter Presidents Luncheon – The NSBE Collegiate Presidents Luncheon is an annual event aimed at connecting collegiate chapter presidents with NSBE professionals. This initiative fosters collaboration, mentorship, and leadership development while highlighting the value of transitioning into professional membership. Attendees will explore incentives such as discounted membership rates, mentorship programs, and career development opportunities. The luncheon bridges the gap between collegiate and professional members, creating a unified path for lifelong success within NSBE.
Black Tech Honors (2026) – A prestigious gala/event recognizing outstanding NYC & Tri-State Black professionals in the tech and engineering fields, celebrating achievements and leadership within the community.
